Ready to revisit a brand made popular by the 1980s film Back to the Future? Well, DeLorean Motor Company is back and they are teasing their next generation vehicle designed in partnership with Italdesign.
Today the San Antonio-based company showed this teaser image, cleared up a bit from their April 1st post, which shows a very modern and clean design with a few nods to the original.
DeLorean Motor Company as we know it today is not quite what we knew back in the 1970s and 1980s. DMC was founded by famed auto-enthusiast John DeLorean whose notable contributions to the motoring world include the Pontiac GTO. When the original company famous for the stainless steel, gull-winged car of Back to the Future fame declared bankruptcy in 1982, all seemed lost for the company. However, in the mid 1990s the company was revived in Humble, Texas (just outside of Houston) by Stephen Wynne who bought up all remaining inventory and began making "new" DMC-12 vehicles with previously produced parts.
Today, the company is moving its headquarters to San Antonio, Texas with plans on an all-new electric vehicle for the modern age. Lets just hope it doesn't take 1.21 gigawatts to charge!
The new vehicle will be all-electric and is slated to premiere Thursday, August 18 at the prestigious Awards Ramp at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
Although the new EV will still be displayed on the Concept Lawn at Pebble Beach on August 21, 2022, the long-awaited DeLorean reveal will come three days sooner. "Excitement is rising like the doors of our iconic sports car, and we are revealing the next generation prototype 3 days earlier than planned on the most prestigious stage at Pebble beach" said Troy Beetz, CMO of DeLorean Motor Company Inc. The past, present, and future of DeLorean will unfold over the duration of Monterey Car Week through a series of activations and events showcasing the vehicle. Along with the reveal, DeLorean will also announce the official name of the vehicle.
The long-awaited concept car is the culmination of a 40+ year history with the prestigious design company Italdesign and DeLorean's new interpretation of a modern icon.
