I just wanted to respond to your inquiries into the options of storing cargo in the rear of this new large SUV from Toyota and knew I could not get into all the detail I wanted to provide you in those other format videos. As far as luggage space, the Sequoia does fall short of the leader of the pack. Chevy’s Tahoe has a whopping 25.5 cubic feet of space behind its third row of seats making it the king of the class in both sales and rear storage space behind the third row. Ford Expedition has 20.9 cubic feet, which is smaller than Sequoia’s maximum “behind-third-row” quoted number from Toyota.
Toyota has multiple numbers for quoted space behind the last row of seats because they have several tricks up their sleeves for dealing with the limited room in the cabin of the vehicle compared to Tahoe. Thanks to the flip-and-fold mechanism for the second-row captain’s chairs, the second row of seats are fixed in place, but the third row of seats slide for additional legroom or storage space, making Sequoia’s maximum rear cargo number an impressive 22.3 cubic feet, up from a minuscule 11.5 cubic feet if you optimize rear legroom.
Toyota even supplies the Sequoia with a movable shelf that can support up to 220 lbs. and has 4 different levels for maximizing rear multi-level storage in the back. Honestly, the functionality and flexibility of the sliding seats and movable shelf really has me questioning whether or not the 3 cubic feet of space the Sequoia concedes to the Tahoe really would be missed by many potential buyers.
