2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+: More Luxurious than a Tesla Model S

2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+: More Luxurious than a Tesla Model S

Mercedes-Benz is in the process of redefining what luxurious motoring is all about with its EQ line of electric vehicles. We first tested an EQS sedan last November and called it the Starship Enterprise. It felt (and sounded) so futuristic for a brand that dates back to 1926.

NEED TO KNOW

  • The 4-wheel steering system is a genuine differentiator that meaningfully improves low-speed maneuverability for a large sedan.
  • 10-80 percent DC fast charging in 31 minutes is a practical fast-charging capability.
  • The AIRMATIC air suspension delivers ride quality that impresses even when compared to non-EV luxury sedans.
  • This is a brief review — detailed driving impressions across multiple conditions were not captured in the written content.

Electric vehicles make a perfect fit for luxury brands. They are quieter and more effortless to drive and typically (at least for now) cost more than their gas-powered equivalents. Hopping behind the wheel of this 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ proves that EVs make excellent luxury vehicles.

We already know that Mercedes is renowned for their luxurious vehicles, but this EQS takes it a step further. This EQS feels planted and sure-footed on corners and in traffic. With its electric drive, power is delivered instantaneously, meaning it feels like a much smaller and lighter vehicle when accelerating. With our tester’s 4-wheel steering, this large sedan felt like it could turn circles inside a garage.

Add to all of that the typical Mercedes-Benz luxury accouterment such as their MBUX voice assistant, heated/ventilated front seats, massive panoramic glass roof, Burmester® 3D Surround Sound, self-leveling AIRMATIC® air suspension, and so much more.

Charging the battery to full will get you an estimated 305 miles of range. Charging happens quickly at DC Fast Chargers too, with up to 200 kW of speed available, the EQS can go from 10-80% in a claimed 31 minutes, getting you and your crew back on the road quickly.
