2026 Corvette Stingray Still Has It

The C8 Corvette has been controversial ever since Chevrolet moved the engine behind the driver.

For some longtime Corvette fans, it lost part of its grand touring soul. For everyone else? It became America’s supercar.

After finally spending a full week living with a 2026 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 2LT equipped with the Z51 Performance Package, I completely understand why this car has become such a phenomenon.

And honestly? It may be one of the most practical supercars on sale today.

The Powertrain Still Feels Special

Under the glass engine cover sits the final model year of the current 6.2-liter naturally aspirated LT2 V8 before the 6.7-liter replacement arrives.

2026 Corvette Stingray Z51 Output

  • 495 horsepower
  • 470 lb-ft of torque
  • 8-speed dual-clutch automatic
  • Rear-wheel drive

And yes… it absolutely rips.

Chevrolet claims: 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds

My real-world testing? 3.46 seconds best run

Still absurdly fast for something that starts just above $70,000.

Z51 Performance Package Is the One to Get

The Z51 package completely transforms the Stingray.

You get:

  • Bigger Brembo brakes
  • Electronic limited-slip differential
  • Magnetic Ride Control
  • Performance suspension
  • Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires
  • Extra cooling
  • More aggressive aero

And on a winding East Texas road, it absolutely shines.

The steering is sharp.
The front end responds instantly.
And the mid-engine layout makes this thing feel incredibly balanced in corners.

Roswell Green Metallic Is a Showstopper

The new-for-2026 Roswell Green Metallic paint may honestly be one of the best colors Chevrolet has ever offered on a Corvette.

People stopped:

  • To take photos
  • To ask questions
  • To stare

Constantly.

And honestly, even without the color, the C8 still looks exotic enough to confuse people into thinking it costs twice as much.

Yes, It’s Actually Practical (Sort of)

This was probably the biggest surprise of the week.

The Corvette has:

  • A front trunk
  • A rear trunk
  • Enough combined storage to rival a midsize sedan

Cargo Highlights

  • 12.6 cubic feet combined storage
  • Golf clubs fit in the rear hatch
  • Removable roof stores in the rear cargo area

Chevrolet somehow made a mid-engine sports car that can run errands, go grocery shopping, and handle a weekend trip.

That’s genuinely impressive.

Interior Updates for 2026 Are a Big Improvement

The 2026 refresh fixes several of the biggest complaints about the older C8 interior.

Biggest Change:

The old wall of climate buttons is gone.

Thank goodness.

Now we get traditional climate controls and a better center console layout. The ergonomics are much improved over prior model years.

The cockpit still feels very driver-focused, almost fighter-jet-like, but it’s much easier to live with now.

Tech Features

Interior Tech Highlights

  • 14-inch digital gauge cluster
  • 12.7-inch infotainment screen
  • Google Built-In
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
  • Head-up display
  • Performance Data Recorder
  • Bose 14-speaker audio system

The updated gauge layouts in Track Mode are especially cool, and Chevrolet continues to do an excellent job with configurable performance pages.

The Corvette Still Makes Compromises

It wouldn’t be a mid-engine sports car without some tradeoffs.

Biggest Downsides

  • Massive rear blind spots
  • Dual-clutch transmission can feel jerky at low speed
  • Passenger access to controls is limited
  • Some questionable interior build quality for a near-$100K car

Magnetic Ride Control Is Magic

This might honestly be the best feature on the car.

In:

  • Tour Mode → comfortable enough to daily drive
  • Sport Mode → tighter without punishment
  • Track Mode → genuinely aggressive

The suspension adapts incredibly quickly to rough pavement and changing road surfaces. It’s one of the reasons this Corvette works so well both as a sports car and a road trip car.

Fuel Economy Is Surprisingly Decent

For something with nearly 500 horsepower, and an EPA rating of 16 city / 25 highway / 19 combined is decent.

And thanks to Active Fuel Management, the Corvette can shut down cylinders while cruising and effectively become a “V4 Corvette” on the highway.

The Convertible Might Actually Be More Practical

Weirdly enough…

If you plan on removing the roof often, the convertible may actually be the smarter choice.

Why? Push-button operation makes putting the top down something that can be done before leaving or while stopped at a red light. Also, when enjoying the open-air experience, the convertible’s top does not consume your limited cargo space (it only covers the view of your loud V8 behind you).

The coupe looks cleaner and lets you see the engine under glass, but the convertible is easier to live with daily.

Final Thoughts

The 2026 Corvette Stingray Z51 proves something important:

A sports car doesn’t have to punish you to be exciting.

This thing is:

  • Fast
  • Loud
  • Gorgeous
  • Shockingly practical
  • And still one of the best performance bargains on sale today

Sure, the Z06 and ZR1 exist.

But honestly?
For most people, the Stingray is already more performance than you’ll ever fully use.

And after a week of living with it alongside my family, I completely understand why the C8 Corvette has become such a massive success.

America absolutely nailed this one.
