2027 BMW X3 M50 Gets a $3,800 Black Package and 437 Horsepower
BMW is giving its quickest gas-powered X3 a darker look and a little more muscle. Starting in December 2026, the 2027 BMW X3 M50 xDrive offers a new optional Black Package with blacked-out wheels, badges, and a cabin wrapped in Alcantara. Even better, every X3 M50 gets a 44-horsepower bump to 437 horsepower, whether you check the Black Package box or not.
For families who want a luxury SUV that handles school pickup during the week and a twisty back road on Saturday, that is a meaningful update. Here is what the package includes, what it costs, and what changes across the rest of the X3 lineup.
The Black Package Goes Dark Outside
The Black Package is a styling package, and it is exclusive to the X3 M50 xDrive. On the outside, it brings a handful of motorsport-inspired details:
- Exclusive 22-inch Jet Black 1134M alloy wheels, one inch larger than any wheel previously offered on the X3 M50
- M Sport brake calipers in a unique high-gloss black finish with a monochrome M logo
- High-gloss black M logos and model badges with silver outlines
In addition, BMW says its other M light-alloy wheels remain available as options on the X3 M50, so the 22s are not the only way to dress it up.
Alcantara and Blue Stitching Inside
Inside, the Black Package leans heavily on black Alcantara. BMW applies it to these areas:
- The driver side of the instrument panel
- The area in front of the central display
- The inductive charging smartphone tray
- The door trim
- The center console armrest
Beyond the Alcantara, the package adds several other cabin highlights:
- Black Alcantara and Veganza upholstery with blue stitching and piping
- M logos embossed into the Alcantara headrests
- M interior trim in an aluminum-carbon structure
- M seatbelts and black floor mats with a flag in the M colors
- Glass accents on selected controls
- A leather-covered M steering wheel airbag module specific to the Black Package
- Dark Silver door sill finishers with a black M logo
Alcantara looks fantastic and feels great in your hands. That said, if you have little ones riding along with snacks and sticky fingers, it is worth thinking about how much upkeep you are signing up for.
More Power for Every 2027 BMW X3 M50
The bigger news for enthusiasts is under the hood. The 3.0-liter M TwinPower Turbo inline-six with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology gains 44 horsepower, bringing output to 437 horsepower. Meanwhile, an enhanced exhaust system gives the engine a deeper, more resonant sound.
As a result, the 2027 X3 M50 xDrive now runs from zero to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds, or 4.0 seconds using the 1-foot rollout method. Importantly, these gains apply to every X3 M50 xDrive, so you do not need the Black Package to get them.
Interior Updates for the Whole X3 Lineup
Not shopping for the M50? Beginning in December 2026, every BMW X3 model receives a few interior upgrades:
- A PVC Softskin surface in front of the central display
- A new stitching pattern on the instrument panel
- Ambient lighting in the center console storage compartment and the interior door handles
- A new glove box opener
- Stainless steel edge protectors for the cargo sill
That last item is a small but smart touch for families. Anyone who has dragged a stroller, a cooler, or a load of sports gear across a cargo sill knows how quickly it gets scuffed.

Every X3 M50 uses BMW xDrive all-wheel drive (AWD). BMW lists the 2027 X3 M50 xDrive at a base MSRP of $67,500, and the Black Package adds $3,800.

Our Take on the 2027 BMW X3 M50
I like what BMW did here. The extra 44 horsepower is the real headline, and BMW is not locking it behind a package. That means every X3 M50 gets quicker and sounds better, whether you go for the Black Package or not.
On the other hand, the Black Package is pure style, and $3,800 is a lot to spend on looks. Still, the 22-inch Jet Black wheels, black calipers, and Alcantara cabin make the X3 M50 look as serious as it now drives. If you want a luxury SUV that hauls the family during the week and makes you grin on the drive home, the 2027 X3 M50 deserves a spot on your short list. Our son would probably vote for anything with cool stitching and a louder exhaust.
