Kia just announced pricing for the refreshed 2027 Kia Niro, and the takeaway for families is refreshingly simple. The subcompact crossover still starts under $30k before destination. Even better, it now comes just one way. For 2027, the Niro is hybrid-only. Kia has retired both the plug-in hybrid and the all-electric Niro EV, so every trim on the lot runs the same fuel-sipping gas-electric system.

That simplicity is good news if you want strong fuel economy without a high price or a plug to manage. Below, you will find every trim and price, what is new in this refresh, and how the 2027 Kia Niro compares with rivals like the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid, Honda HR-V, and Chevrolet Trax.

What’s New for the 2027 Kia Niro

This refresh is more than a color swap. Up front, Kia added redesigned front and rear fascias with its signature Star Map lighting. To our eyes, the new look reads like a smaller Sportage, and that is a compliment, or a clear sibling to the Kia K4. New wheels and fresh paint colors, including Ivory Silver and Sunset Beige, finish the cleaner, more grown-up design.

Inside, the bigger story is tech, and it is very welcome. Gone are the USB-A cords and the old, tiny 10.25-inch screen. A 12.3-inch touchscreen is now standard, and an available 12.3-inch digital driver display creates a clean dual-screen look. Better yet, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. Kia’s Connected Car Navigation Cockpit also adds over-the-air updates, so the Niro can get better over time without a trip to the dealer.

Safety steps up as well. Newly available features include Highway Driving Assist 2, a 360-degree Surround View Monitor, and a Blind-Spot View Monitor. Kia also expanded forward collision warning to spot cyclists and oncoming traffic. Finally, revised suspension tuning and extra sound insulation aim to make the ride quieter and more settled.

2027 Kia Niro Price Breakdown by Trim

Here is where the lineup lands. The table below shows MSRP by trim. Every Niro is front-wheel drive (FWD), and each price excludes the $1,495 destination charge.

TrimDrivetrainMSRP*
Niro LXFWD$29,890
Niro SFWD$30,590
Niro EXFWD$31,390
Niro SXFWD$35,440
Niro SX TouringFWD$38,990
*MSRP excludes the $1,495 destination charge.

Add destination, and the entry LX arrives at $31,385, while the loaded SX Touring tops out at $40,485. For most families, the middle of the range is the sweet spot. The EX adds nicer everyday features without a big jump, and the SX unlocks the newest driver-assist tech.

The Hybrid-Only Powertrain, Explained

Every 2027 Niro uses the same hybrid setup. A 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine teams with an electric motor for 139 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. Power runs through a six-speed dual-clutch transmission to the front wheels.

Fuel economy is the real headline. Kia has not published official 2027 EPA numbers yet. However, the powertrain carries over unchanged, and the current Niro earns up to 53 MPG combined. That figure is strong for the class and easy on a family budget.

We are fans, too. When we tested our last Niro, we came away impressed enough to tell the Toyota Prius to beware. Watch our review below.

Dropping the plug-in and electric versions may disappoint some shoppers. If an EV is still on your list, our review of the outgoing 2023 Kia Niro EV is worth a read. Kia is shifting that electric role to its newer EV lineup, including the EV3, which looks quite promising. For 2027, the Niro keeps things simple with one efficient hybrid.

Room for Car Seats, Gear, and Real Life

Space is where the Niro earns its keep as a first family crossover. Behind the rear seats, you get 22.8 cubic feet of cargo room. Fold those seats down, and that opens up to 63.7 cubic feet. That is enough for a stroller, a week of groceries, or a Costco run.

A previous Niro tester of ours proved beneficial on a family road trip to Broken Bow, OK. While we had a 3-row SUV, it left no room for our luggage for all 5 passengers, so we needed the Niro to come along as the luggage car. Thankfully, its fuel-sipping nature did not add a lot to the cost of the trip.

The five-seat cabin is easy to live with, too. A tall roofline helps with car-seat installs and loading squirmy kids. Meanwhile, the new screens keep controls within reach, and OTA updates mean some features can improve after you drive home.

How the 2027 Niro Stacks Up Against Rivals

So how does the 2027 Niro compare? Its closest family rivals are the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid, the Hyundai Kona Hybrid, the Honda HR-V, and the Chevrolet Trax. Against that group, the Niro leads on fuel economy and warranty.

The gas-only Honda HR-V and budget Chevrolet Trax undercut the Niro on price. Yet neither matches its hybrid MPG. The Corolla Cross Hybrid is the toughest fight, though the Niro answers with more cargo room and longer coverage. For a sense of how hot this segment is, our look at the best-selling Honda CR-V shows how much families love a right-sized crossover.

What About Warranty and Ownership?

Ownership is another Niro strength. Kia backs the 2027 Niro with a 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. On top of that, the hybrid battery is covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. For a family planning to keep a vehicle for years, that coverage adds real peace of mind.

The Bottom Line for Families

For most families, the refreshed 2027 Kia Niro is a smart, low-stress hybrid pick. If you want the best value, start with the LX or EX. If you want the newest safety and camera tech, step up to the SX or SX Touring. Either way, you get up to 53 MPG, a roomy cargo hold, and one of the longest warranties in the class.

The Niro is expected to reach dealers later this year. If your family needs more room, our 2027 Kia Sportage pricing guide covers the next size up. For more new-car news, browse the latest from GT: Garage Talk®.
