Two Hybrid Choices for Two Kinds of Families
The 2027 Lexus NX arrives with two electrified powertrains, and picking between them really comes down to how your family drives.
First, the NX 350h is a traditional hybrid. On the Premium and Premium+ grades, you can choose front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), while the F SPORT and Luxury grades come with AWD standard. This is the easy-button choice for families who want strong fuel economy without ever plugging in.
Next, the NX 450h+ is the plug-in hybrid, and it’s AWD across every grade. Lexus fitted a newly developed lithium-ion battery with a manufacturer-estimated 40-plus miles of electric range on select grades. That battery grew in capacity by about 30%, and the system now makes roughly 8% more output than before. Better yet, it supports DC fast charging through a dedicated Power Charge Port Door. For a household with a short daily commute, 40-plus electric miles can cover a lot of everyday errands before the gas engine ever wakes up. Safety That Comes Standard on Every Grade
This is where the 2027 Lexus NX earns serious family points. Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 is standard on all grades, so you don’t pay extra for peace of mind.
The standard suite includes several features parents will appreciate:

Parents will also like the standard Drive Recorder, which adds built-in dashcam functionality. That’s genuinely handy for documenting a parking-lot ding or keeping an eye on things when a newer driver borrows the keys. Families can personalize the space, too, with five interior color choices, including the new Abalos and Radiant Red options.
Step up to the Luxury or F SPORT grade and you can add the available Sensory Concierge system. It coordinates lighting, music, climate, seat temperature, and even fragrance across three modes called INSPIRE, RADIANCE, and REVITALIZE. It’s a nice touch for the parent who finally gets a quiet moment in the driver’s seat.
Connected Tech for Busy Households
The 2027 Lexus NX also leans into connected features that fit a hectic family calendar. Cloud Navigation pulls in real-time data, while the Intelligent Assistant voice control lets you keep both hands on the wheel and both eyes on the road.
An available Digital Key lets you unlock and start the NX with a compatible phone, and you can share access with a partner or an older teen without handing over a fob. Lexus also includes trials of Safety Connect, Service Connect, and Remote Connect, so you can check on the vehicle or call for help from an app. Wi-Fi Connect and available Traffic Jam Assist round out the package, though some connected services require a subscription after the trial period.
Grades, Colors, and Curb Appeal
Lexus offers the 2027 NX in four grades: Premium, Premium+, F SPORT, and Luxury. That spread gives families room to choose comfort or a sportier flavor without leaving the lineup.
Buyers can pick from nine exterior colors, including two fresh additions: Shaded Ivy, a subtle ash tone, and Incognito, which is exclusive to the F SPORT grade. Speaking of F SPORT, that’s the grade we’d steer the enthusiast parent toward, while the Luxury grade leans into a calmer, more comfort-focused vibe.
How It Compares to the Lexus NX Models We’ve Driven
We’ve spent real time in the NX before, so we have a good sense of how far this SUV has come.
Back in our review of the 2021 Lexus NX 300, we drove the last of the old-school NX models, the one with a laptop-style trackpad instead of a touchscreen. It ran a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder good for 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, sent power through all-wheel drive, and posted a zero to 60 mph time of 7.0 seconds. Fuel economy came in at 22 city, 28 highway, and 24 combined MPG, and it started around $45,360. It was a likable little crossover, but it was very much a gas-only machine.
More recently, we tested the 2026 Lexus NX 450h+ Luxury, the plug-in hybrid that showed exactly where this lineup was heading. Its 2.5-liter plug-in system made 304 horsepower combined, trimmed the zero to 60 mph run to a Lexus-estimated 6.0 seconds, and delivered 37 miles of all-electric range along with an EPA-estimated 34 MPG combined. It came with Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 and a genuinely plush Luxury cabin.
That history is what makes the 2027 update interesting for families. The new plug-in hybrid stretches past 40 miles of electric range, adds roughly 8% more output than that 304-horsepower system, and steps up to the newer Lexus Safety System+ 4.0. In other words, the NX keeps getting more efficient and more capable without losing the right-sized footprint that made it a family favorite in the first place.

Lexus expects the 2027 NX to reach global markets by the end of 2026, with U.S. pricing and official EPA ratings coming closer to the on-sale date.
Our early take is simple: the 2027 Lexus NX checks a lot of family boxes. Yes, it very much mimics the ES we recently spent a week with.
