When I met Holli, she was driving a base 2010 MINI. She loved that car, and she still misses it. However, it had two doors, and once we started planning a family, it had to go. Car seats and a tiny two-door hatchback were never going to get along.

Since then, MINI has done some growing up of its own. The Countryman is now the brand’s largest model, and the new 2027 MINI Countryman Untamed Edition takes it further from the city. It adds a suspension lift, all-terrain tires, and a standard tow hitch.

What Is the MINI Countryman Untamed Edition?

The Untamed Edition comes to the U.S. in two versions. The gas-powered Countryman S ALL4 makes 241 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the all-electric SE ALL4 makes 308 horsepower and 364 lb-ft, according to MINI USA. Both come standard with MINI’s ALL4 all-wheel drive (AWD).

Production starts in November 2026 at BMW Group Plant Leipzig in Germany. As a result, MINI expects U.S. deliveries to begin in early 2027.

More Clearance and Real All-Terrain Tires

The Untamed Edition rides on a 15-millimeter (about 0.6-inch) suspension lift. Depending on market and powertrain, that adds up to 19 millimeters (about 0.75 inch) of ground clearance. In addition, MINI retuned the suspension, ABS, stability control, and steering for this model, and it improved the approach and breakover angles.

In the U.S., Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tires come standard on exclusive 19-inch Untamed Edition Spoke wheels. MINI says the wheel design was inspired by classic off-road steel wheels. Matte black protective film also covers the wheel arches, side sills, and hood, while redesigned front and rear underbody protection comes in a Dark Steel finish.

Toyota took a similar approach with the 2027 Grand Highlander Woodland Edition, which also adds all-terrain tires. However, MINI packs the idea into a much smaller footprint.

Built for the Weekend Gear

Every U.S. Untamed Edition gets a factory-installed trailer hitch rated to tow up to 3,500 pounds. That’s enough for a small camper, a utility trailer, or a couple of jet skis.

Above the cabin, the roof can carry 165 pounds while driving and up to 661 pounds while parked. For that reason, MINI worked with Italian company AUTOHOME on a roof tent that opens in seconds using built-in gas struts. It’s sold separately. MINI also teamed with HELINOX on a line of folding chairs and camp tables.

Inside, the smaller touches show MINI expects these to get dirty. For example, rubber all-weather floor mats with a rock-formation pattern come standard, along with a matching cargo mat. The center console storage box also gets elastic straps to keep things from rolling around. Anyone who has cleaned a back seat after a muddy ball game will appreciate that.

An Interior With Personality

This is still a MINI, so the cabin has plenty of character. Exclusive Vescin Nightshade Blue sport seats feature perforated upholstery, knit shoulder sections, and Cornflower Blue piping and stitching. An Untamed logo with a mountain panorama is stitched into the seats. Meanwhile, the knit dashboard and door panels come in Millennial Melange, a dark gray with a blue base, and Dark Steel trim replaces the usual Vibrant Silver.

Buyers can also choose Vescin Vintage Brown or Vescin Black upholstery.

On the outside, there are five exclusive colors: Hideaway Grey, Nomad Blue, Nanuq White, Midnight Black, and Frozen Nomad Blue. Notably, Frozen Nomad Blue is the first matte paint ever offered on a series-production MINI. Roofs come in Glazed White or Jet Black.

The Countryman S ALL4 Untamed Edition starts at $43,900, plus a $1,350 destination charge, for a total of $45,250. It builds on the $38,900 Countryman S ALL4 with Iconic trim and the Comfort Package Plus, which together bring the price to $42,300. The Untamed Edition package then adds $1,600.

Options include the Comfort Package Max for $900, a universal garage door opener for $250, and a space-saver spare tire for $300. Finally, MINI will announce pricing for the SE ALL4 Untamed Edition later.

Final Thoughts

Four doors, more clearance, and room for the weekend gear make this a MINI for a different stage of life. (Photo by MINI)

Holli’s 2010 MINI was the right car for two people with no kids, no gear, and nowhere particular to be. The Countryman Untamed Edition, on the other hand, is built for a different stage of life. It has four doors, a hitch, and enough clearance to reach the campsite at the end of a gravel road.

For a family like ours that once traded a MINI for more doors, it’s a sign that the brand has been growing up right along with us.
