The 2027 Ram 1500 TRX SRT Is a 777-HP Family Supertruck

This Ram is insane (Photo by Cory Fourniquet)

The Ram TRX is back, and this time it returns with SRT badging, 777 horsepower, and a very clear mission: remind everyone that Ram still knows how to build an absolutely ridiculous pickup truck.

For 2027, the Ram 1500 TRX SRT once again sits at the top of the off-road performance truck world. It brings back the 6.2L supercharged HEMI V8, now making 777 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of torque. That is more horsepower than the Ford F-150 Raptor R, and yes, Ram absolutely wants you to know that.

But here at GT: Garage Talk®, we always look at vehicles through a family-first lens. So the real question is not just whether the TRX is fast, loud, and cool. It obviously is. The better question is whether this 777-horsepower monster truck can still work for real life.

After spending time with it, the answer is surprisingly yes.

The Apex Predator Returns With 777 Horsepower

The heart of the 2027 Ram 1500 TRX SRT is the 6.2L supercharged HEMI V8. Output is rated at 777 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of torque, which makes this the most powerful full-size pickup truck Ram has ever built.

Power goes through a TorqueFlite 8HP95 8-speed automatic transmission and a BorgWarner 48-13 full-time active transfer case. There is no 2WD mode here, so if you were dreaming of smoky rear-wheel-drive burnouts, this is not that truck. Instead, the TRX sends power to all four wheels for more traction, more of the time.

It also gets launch control, which feels equal parts hilarious and unnecessary in a pickup this large. But that is kind of the point. The TRX is not here to be subtle.

This Truck Looks Like It Needs Its Own ZIP Code

The TRX is massive. It is more than 80 inches wide, which is why it wears marker lights up front and in the rear. The hood features functional airflow elements, and the front Ram logo helps feed air to that supercharged V8.

There are red tow hooks, full LED lighting, steel bumpers, and wide fenders that make this truck look every bit as serious as the numbers suggest. The SRT badging is new. The brand always claimed the TRX was an SRT vehicle at heart; now it is officially the performance sub-brand’s halo vehicle.

The Forged Blue Metallic exterior on our tester gave the truck a slightly more refined look, but there is no hiding what this is. It is tall, wide, loud and impossible to ignore.

Built to Soak Up More Than Speed Bumps

The TRX suspension allows over a foot of wheel travel (Photo by Cory Fourniquet)

Underneath all the muscle-truck theater is some serious off-road hardware.

The 2027 Ram 1500 TRX SRT gets an independent front suspension with active performance damping, forged aluminum upper and lower control arms and 13 inches of front wheel travel. Out back, there is a five-link coil rear suspension with a Dana 60 rear axle, full-floating axle shafts, a rear axle hop damper and 14 inches of rear wheel travel.

Second-generation Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive performance shocks help give the TRX its magic trick: making a massive, high-horsepower off-road truck ride like something much more refined.

On the road, that suspension means speed bumps, rough pavement and broken surfaces almost disappear. Off-road, it means this truck is built for serious high-speed fun. We did not get to test that side of the truck in this video fully, but based on previous TRX experience, this is one of the few vehicles you can buy with a factory warranty that feels ready for the desert right off the showroom floor.

Luxury Truck Inside, Monster Truck Outside

Climbing into the TRX is exactly that: climbing. This truck sits high, and at 5 feet, 10 inches tall, I still needed the step and A-pillar grab handle to get in comfortably.

Once inside, though, the TRX feels more luxury truck than stripped-down performance toy. There is leather, suede, carbon-fiber trim, a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch Uconnect 5 Nav touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a Harman Kardon 19-speaker audio system with a 10-inch subwoofer.

Our tester also had 12-way power front seats with heating, ventilation, memory and massage. The front passenger gets the same 12-way power adjustability, heat, ventilation and massage as well.

One detail we especially appreciate: this tester had the second glove box instead of the passenger-side screen. In a family vehicle, useful storage wins every time.

The Back Seat Is Where This Truck Gets Surprisingly Practical

The second row is where the TRX starts to make a much stronger family case.

This is a crew cab Ram 1500, so rear-seat space is excellent. There is plenty of legroom, a reclining second-row seat, heated and ventilated outboard rear seats, rear air vents, a fold-down center armrest with cup holders and the Ram-exclusive in-floor storage bins.

Those RamBins remain one of the smartest storage solutions in any full-size truck. They are great for family road-trip items, kid gear, recovery straps, small tools or anything else you do not want rolling around the cabin.

The 60/40 split-folding rear seat bottom is also easy to use because it does not require fiddly latches. That said, from our family perspective, the split is on the wrong side for how we typically use a car seat or booster. We usually place a child seat behind the passenger side, so we would prefer the 40% section on that side for easier cargo flexibility.

Still, the rear seat is excellent. There really is not a bad seat in the house.

Driving the TRX Is Hilarious, Comfortable and Not Exactly Stealthy

Driving the TRX is not that imposing (Photo by Cory Fourniquet)

On the road, the 2027 Ram 1500 TRX SRT is shockingly easy to drive considering how big and powerful it is.

The steering is light enough for daily use without feeling disconnected. Visibility is excellent because you sit so high. The large mirrors help, and the surround-view camera system is a must-have in a truck this size.

The ride is the real surprise. This truck feels plush in a way that does not make sense when you remember it has 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory all-terrain tires and more wheel travel than some purpose-built off-road rigs.

Then you press the accelerator.

The supercharger whine and exhaust note make it immediately clear that this is not a normal Ram 1500. It is loud, dramatic and deeply entertaining. It is also not remotely subtle. If you are trying to sneak away quietly, good luck. Everyone will know exactly who did it.

The Price and Fuel Economy Are the Reality Check

Yes, there is a high cost of ownership (Photo by Cory Fourniquet)

Our tester came in at $107,315 including destination. The window sticker listed a standard vehicle price of $74,995 for the RHO, but the TRX package and additional options quickly pushed this truck well into six-figure territory.

Fuel economy is also exactly what you would expect from a 777-horsepower supercharged V8 off-road truck. EPA estimates are 10 mpg city, 14 mpg highway and 12 mpg combined. It also requires premium unleaded fuel and has a 33-gallon tank.

In other words, buying the TRX is just the beginning. Feeding it is part of the ownership experience.

Final Thoughts: Is the TRX a Family Vehicle?

The TRX makes a compelling case as a crazy cool family rig (Photo by Cory Fourniquet)

The 2027 Ram 1500 TRX SRT is ridiculous. It is loud, huge, expensive and wildly unnecessary.

It is also incredibly cool.

More importantly for us, it is not just cool in an enthusiast vacuum. This truck has real family-friendly strengths. The cabin is spacious. The rear seat is excellent. The storage is smart. The ride is comfortable. The tech is strong. The visibility is good. And the safety and driver-assistance features help make daily driving less intimidating.

No, most families do not need a 777-horsepower supercharged pickup truck.

But if your family vehicle also needs to be your enthusiast toy, your road-trip machine, your off-road rig and your personal Texas supercar, the Ram 1500 TRX SRT makes a very loud, very convincing argument.
