The 2027 Chevy Silverado Nobody’s Talking About Is the One That Tows the Most
Since Chevrolet pulled the wraps off the next-generation Silverado 1500, nearly every photo, first look, and spec breakdown has centered on the Crew Cab. That makes sense, because the four-door, short-bed Crew Cab is the truck most people buy. However, the 2027 Silverado 1500 order guide lists nine models, and the 2027 Silverado Double Cab and Regular Cab account for five of them.
In other words, the 2027 Silverado Regular Cab and 2027 Silverado Double Cab are very much alive. On top of that, one of them tows more than any other half-ton Silverado. Here’s everything the order guide and Chevrolet’s own spec sheet tell us about the forgotten cabs.
Yes, the 2027 Silverado Regular Cab and Double Cab Are Real
The 2027 Silverado 1500 comes in three cab styles and three bed lengths. Here’s how they break down, along with the trims you can get on each.

There’s one important catch. The order guide lists every Regular Cab and Double Cab model as late availability, so you won’t see them on dealer lots right away. Instead, expect the Crew Cab to arrive first, with the other cabs following later in the model year.
The 2027 Silverado Regular Cab: Work Truck Only, and the Payload Champ
If you want a two-door Silverado, you’re getting a Work Truck. Chevrolet offers the Regular Cab only in WT trim, with either a 6-foot-6-inch bed or an 8-foot bed. Also, the engine choice depends on the bed. The standard-bed Regular Cab comes only with the 2.7L TurboMax, which makes 350 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the long-bed model adds the option of the new 5.7-liter V8 (402 horsepower, 428 lb-ft), although the V8 also requires the WT Convenience Package.
Here’s the surprise. According to Chevrolet’s spec sheet, the 2WD Regular Cab with the TurboMax has the highest base payload in the entire Silverado 1500 lineup at 2,340 pounds. For comparison, a TurboMax Crew Cab is rated at 2,040 pounds.
What You Give Up
Naturally, the Regular Cab is the most basic Silverado. It seats three on a 40/20/40 front bench, uses a four-speaker audio system, and skips the rear USB ports and rear air vents. In addition, its fuel tank tops out at about 28 gallons, whereas the Double Cab and Crew Cab offer an available 34-gallon tank. Still, every 2027 Silverado Work Truck includes the Silverado Active Safety suite, adaptive cruise control, and front and rear park assist, so even the cheapest two-door truck isn’t bare bones.
The 2027 Silverado Double Cab: Four Doors and a Full-Size Bed
The 2027 Silverado Double Cab is the middle child, and for many buyers it might be the smartest pick. It pairs smaller rear doors and a 60/40 folding rear bench for three passengers with the 6-foot-6-inch bed. As a result, you get room for the family and a bed that doesn’t compromise on length.
The Double Cab is available in four versions: Work Truck, Custom, Silverado (1LT), and the 4WD-only Silverado (2FL), which comes standard with the Z71 Off-Road Package. Every one of them comes standard with the TurboMax. However, only the Work Truck and Silverado (1LT) offer the 5.7-liter V8, and there’s no Duramax diesel or 6.6-liter V8 on any Double Cab.
Double Cab Limitations
- No Super Cruise. The order guide says the Super Cruise Package requires a Crew Cab.
- No Silverado Premium Package. That package isn’t available on Double Cab models.
- Bench seat only on 2WD. Front bucket seats and the MultiFlex center console aren’t available on the 2WD Double Cab.
The Towing Surprise: The 2027 Silverado Double Cab Tops the Chart
This is the part nobody’s talking about. According to Chevrolet’s maximum trailering figures, the most capable half-ton Silverado isn’t a Crew Cab at all. Instead, it’s a 2WD Double Cab with the 5.7-liter V8 and the Max Trailering Package, rated at 13,700 pounds.

Keep in mind, you’ll have to spec the truck carefully to get there. The order guide shows the Max Trailering Package (RPO NHT) only on the Silverado (1LT) trim. With the 5.7-liter V8, it also requires the Trailer Technology Package, the Chevytec spray-on bedliner, and either the Z71 suspension or 20-inch wheels. Also, notice that the Regular Cab can’t get the Max Trailering Package, which is why its 5.7-liter towing numbers trail the TurboMax in 2WD form.
Final Thoughts: Why These Cabs Still Matter
The Crew Cab will keep grabbing the headlines, and it’ll keep outselling everything else. Even so, the Regular Cab and Double Cab fill real needs. Fleet buyers and budget shoppers get a simple Work Truck with the highest payload in the lineup. Meanwhile, families who tow get a Double Cab with a full 6-foot-6-inch bed and the highest tow rating of any 2027 Silverado 1500.
