The 2027 Toyota Corolla 60th Anniversary Edition celebrates 60 years of the nameplate. It is a limited-run hybrid with exclusive Supersonic Red paint, anniversary details, and upgraded technology.

The first Corolla arrived in 1966. Six decades later, Toyota is marking the milestone with a special edition for U.S. buyers. The car uses the Corolla Hybrid SE as its base. To that proven setup, Toyota adds exclusive colors, unique badging and special interior touches. The familiar fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System carries over underneath. Better yet for collectors, Toyota plans to build only 2,500 examples for the United States. That should make it a relatively rare sight.

Here are five things GT: Garage Talk® readers should know.

It starts with the Corolla Hybrid SE

Toyota chose the Corolla Hybrid SE as the foundation. It gives the special edition the sportier look of the SE rather than the efficiency-focused LE trim. The SE already brings a more aggressive front fascia, larger wheels, and sport-oriented details. So the anniversary treatment adds another visual layer. The car underneath stays the same.

That restrained approach fits the Corolla’s history. The model built its reputation on affordability, efficiency and everyday usability, not outright performance. Buyers have clearly responded. Toyota says it has sold more than 57 million Corollas worldwide as of March 2026. The nameplate reaches more than 150 countries and regions.

Only 2,500 are planned for the U.S.

Toyota plans to limit U.S. production to just 2,500 vehicles. That makes the anniversary model far less common than a standard Corolla Hybrid SE. Even so, think of it as a collectible appearance package, not a different performance car.

Limited Corolla runs are nothing new. Toyota has offered special variants before, including the recent FX models. Those gave the compact sedan and hatchback more personality. Here, the small production number helps the edition stand out. It should stay easy to live with and, presumably, affordable. Toyota has not announced the anniversary edition’s price yet.

Supersonic Red is the signature color

The biggest exterior change is the color palette. Toyota offers the anniversary edition in Supersonic Red and Ice Cap. Supersonic Red is exclusive to the special edition. The car also gets 18-inch machined black-finished wheels. Unique 60th Anniversary badging replaces the usual SE identification.

Compared with some anniversary cars, the treatment stays restrained. Toyota skips large graphics and retro trim. Instead, it leans on color, wheels and a few subtle details. For buyers who want a distinct look, Supersonic Red does most of the work.

Anniversary details continue inside

The special treatment does not stop outside. Inside, the seats wear black and red Sport fabric. Anniversary door sills and 60th Anniversary floor mats round out the cabin. A 10.5-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen comes standard, too. Toyota usually offers it only as an upgrade on the Corolla Hybrid SE. It also supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

None of these changes are dramatic, and that seems intentional. The Corolla is an everyday compact sedan first. So Toyota focused on details owners notice daily. It skipped decorative touches that hurt practicality.

The hybrid powertrain stays familiar

Toyota did not add a higher-output hybrid for the anniversary. The regular Corolla Hybrid setup carries over. A 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine works with Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system. Together they make 138 combined horsepower. The SE grade offers front-wheel drive or electronic on-demand all-wheel drive. Nothing in the announcement points to extra power here.

That may disappoint anyone hoping for a performance-focused birthday present. Still, it keeps the car true to what made the Corolla a success. Efficiency, low running costs and simple transportation stay the priorities. The special edition changes the presentation, not the mission.

Final thoughts

Toyota could have marked the 60th anniversary with an elaborate retro model. It could have built an expensive halo car. Instead, the company kept things simple. The 2027 Toyota Corolla 60th Anniversary Edition pairs the Hybrid SE powertrain with distinctive wheels and two chosen colors. A little anniversary branding makes it recognizable without going overboard.

For GT: Garage Talk readers, the big question is price. Toyota has priced the rest of the 2027 lineup. The Corolla Hybrid SE that underpins this model starts at $27,615, plus a $1,295 processing fee. That regular SE already delivers most of the mechanical package here. So the anniversary edition’s value depends on its premium over that number. The premium covers the limited run, the exclusive paint, the bigger screen and the commemorative trim. Toyota says the standard 2027 Corolla lineup reaches dealers this fall. The 60th Anniversary Special Edition then arrives in early 2027. Its own price is still to come.
