Nissan is rolling into the SEMA Show in Las Vegas with three wild off-road builds, and the headliner is a Frontier pickup running a twin-turbo V6 with turbochargers borrowed from the GT-R NISMO. The Nissan SEMA concepts also include a retro Pathfinder that celebrates the SUV’s 40th anniversary and an open-roof Armada built like a safari truck.

None of these three trucks is for sale. Still, Nissan says the builds hint at where its future trucks and SUVs, including an all-new Xterra, are headed, and some of the parts on them may show up at your local Nissan dealer.

Nissan Brings Three Off-Road Builds to SEMA

Last week, Nissan showed its enthusiast side with the Z Kaze concept and a 300-horsepower Sentra Spec-V. Now the trucks get their turn. This year’s off-road lineup is based on the Frontier midsize pickup, the Pathfinder three-row SUV, and the Armada full-size SUV.

You can see all three in person at Nissan booth #21521 in Central Hall at the Las Vegas Convention Center during the 2026 SEMA Show, which runs Nov. 3 through Nov. 6.

Frontier RONIN Concept Packs GT-R Twin Turbos

RONIN means “masterless warrior” in Japanese, and this Frontier looks the part in Baltic Teal paint with a bronze and black topographic livery. Under the hood, Nissan’s builders took the Frontier’s 3.8-liter V6 and added a custom rear-mounted twin-turbo system from the R35 GT-R NISMO, along with a front-mount intercooler and ECUTEK engine tuning. Nissan has not released a horsepower figure for the build.

Meanwhile, the chassis is just as serious. Here are the highlights:

  • Modified Nissan TITAN suspension and rear axle swap
  • About 4 inches of lift, a track that is 12 inches wider, and 14 inches of wheel travel
  • Bilstein Black Hawk adjustable coilovers and CJD Racing long-travel parts
  • 35-inch Yokohama Geolandar X-AT tires on prototype 17-inch NISMO ASCEND beadlock wheels
  • Custom big brake kit with six-piston front calipers
  • NISMO Off Road rock sliders, roof rack, driving lights, and spare tire carrier

Inside, custom KINETIC sport bucket seats, topographic-inspired seat belts, and a triple gauge pod for boost, oil pressure, and exhaust temperature keep tabs on the extra power.

Pathfinder XE-V6 Concept Celebrates 40 Years

If you are a longtime Pathfinder fan, this one is for you. The XE-V6 concept looks back to the first-generation WD21 Pathfinder, which won “4×4 of the Year” and “Four Wheeler of the Year” honors in 1987. Its retro “XE-V6” badges recall that truck’s available 3.0-liter V6, and the red paint with black, charcoal, and silver stripes nods to 1980s Patrol graphics. We dug into that history when the 2027 Nissan Pathfinder Special Edition arrived with its own burgundy throwback.

The build starts with the Pathfinder Rock Creek and its 295 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. From there, Nissan added:

  • A custom 4-inch lift kit
  • Yokohama Geolandar M/T G003 tires on prototype 18-inch NISMO AX-5 wheels
  • Custom high-clearance bumpers, rock rails, and skid plates
  • A roof rack with four 6-inch NISMO Off Road lights
  • A rear swing-out carrier that holds a full-size spare
  • A WARN winch, a NISMO rooftop storage case, and a 45-quart NISMO ice box

In other words, it is a three-row family hauler dressed for a weekend campsite, which is exactly what made the original Pathfinder popular with American families.

Armada Jungle Patrol Concept Goes Full Safari

The Armada Jungle Patrol pays tribute to the Nissan Patrol, the SUV that built its reputation in harsh desert and safari conditions around the world. To get the look, Nissan removed the roof, added a tubular roll cage, and installed inward-facing bench seats with harnesses. Our car-crazy son would call dibs on those safari seats before we even parked.

Underneath, the Jungle Patrol keeps the Armada’s standard 3.5-liter V6, rated at 425 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, and adds a prototype NISMO cat-back exhaust. It also gets:

  • A widened track with custom CJD long-travel suspension
  • Adjustable coilovers with remote reservoirs
  • 37-inch Yokohama Geolandar M/T tires on prototype 18-inch NISMO AXIS beadlock wheels
  • Custom tubular steel bumpers, fender flares, and rock sliders
  • Roof-mounted NISMO Off Road lights

What You Can Actually Buy at a Nissan Dealer

Even though these concepts stay on the show floor, SEMA ideas do reach showrooms. Nissan credits earlier SEMA concepts with inspiring today’s Rock Creek lineup, which includes the Rogue, Kicks, and Pathfinder Rock Creek. In fact, we spent time with the 2023 Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek when it was new. Additionally, some of the Nissan and NISMO accessory parts on these builds may be sold through Nissan dealerships.

If you want factory off-road gear today, here is what the current lineup offers:

  • Armada PRO-4X: all-terrain tires, an off-road front bumper with a better approach angle, skid plates, an electronic locking rear differential, and Adaptive Electronic Air Suspension
  • Frontier PRO-X and PRO-4X: Bilstein suspension parts, black 17-inch wheels with Lava Red lettering, and all-terrain tires, plus an electronic locking rear differential on the PRO-4X (the PRO-X is 4×2 only)
  • Pathfinder Rock Creek: an off-road-tuned suspension, a lifted ride height, and all-terrain tires

One important note for families: Nissan warns that modifications can affect performance, safety, emissions, and durability, and damage caused by modifications may not be covered under warranty. You can build your own Frontier, Pathfinder, or Armada on NissanUSA.com.

Our Take on the Nissan SEMA Concepts

The Armada Jungle Patrol Concept rounds out a SEMA lineup that hints at tougher Nissan trucks and SUVs to come, including an all-new Xterra. (Photo by Nissan)

I love that Nissan used SEMA to show off its trucks instead of just its sports cars. The Frontier RONIN is the one that gets my gearhead heart going, because a twin-turbo midsize pickup with GT-R hardware and 14 inches of travel sounds like a desert runner I would line up to drive. However, the Pathfinder XE-V6 is the build that makes the most sense for families like ours. It is a reminder that a three-row SUV can still have some adventure in it, and the Rock Creek proves Nissan has followed through on SEMA ideas before.

The bigger story is the all-new Xterra Nissan keeps teasing. If these builds are any hint, Nissan wants its next round of trucks and SUVs to be tougher, and I am here for it.
