2026 Genesis GV80 Coupe Prestige Black Review: The All-Black Build That Won Me Over
We spent a week in Washington, D.C. with the 2026 Genesis GV80 Coupe Prestige Black, and it did something I honestly did not expect. It changed my mind about all-black interiors. Anyone who follows GT: Garage Talk® knows my usual line on black cabins, because I say it in almost every review: they need a touch of color. Yet this one, finished in Uyuni White over Obsidian Black, made me eat those words.
What Makes the Genesis GV80 Coupe Prestige Black Different
So what exactly is Prestige Black? For 2026, Genesis brought its monochrome Prestige Black package to North America for the first time. It spans much of the lineup, including the G80 sedan, the G90 flagship, the GV80 SUV, and our GV80 Coupe. Buyers pick either Vik Black or Uyuni White on the outside. From there, almost everything else turns dark.
Black Everywhere You Look, Even the Camera
When I say everything is black, I mean everything. All the usual interior silver metallic trim? Black. The buttons, controls, and switchgear? Black. The infotainment controller that’s normally trimmed in crystal? Also black. Even the little car icon on the bird’s-eye view of the 360-degree camera, the one that pops up in reverse, is black too.
That level of commitment is rare. In fact, Genesis went so far as to darken the pattern on the driver-assistance radar cover up front. The result feels deliberate rather than dipped. Because of that consistency, the cabin reads as one clean, intentional theme instead of a random parts-bin blackout.
The Textures That Saved the All-Black Cabin
Here is the part that surprised me most. Even though the interior is fully black, it never felt flat or boring. That is because Genesis layered in a great mix of textures. The Black Ash open-pore wood on the console, dash, and door tops has real grain you can feel. Meanwhile, the quilted Nappa leather, the suede-style headliner, and the knurled metal dials all catch the light differently.
Normally this is where I complain. If you watch or read our 2026 Audi Q3 S line review, you will hear me wish for a splash of color. This time, though, the texture did the work that color usually does. So the black cabin held my attention on its own.
The black also tackles our other big gripe from the last GV80 we tested: reflection. All that shiny, bright metal used to throw glare right at you. Now the sun still catches the black metal at times; however, it is nowhere near as harsh. For a daily driver, that small change matters more than it sounds.
Black Trim That Finally Fixes the Fingerprints
The blackout continues outside, and it solves a real problem. The grille is black. The Genesis emblems, front and rear, are black. The door handles on the soft-close doors are black as well. On the GV80 we tested last, those touchpoints wore dark chrome, and we complained that they showed every fingerprint the moment you touched them. This black finish hides the oils from your skin far better.
Power, Ride, and the Numbers
The Genesis GV80 Coupe Prestige Black is not just a looks package. Under the hood sits a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 paired with a 48-volt e-Supercharger. Together they make a strong 409 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque. That power runs through an 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive with a Terrain Mode. As a result, this 5,100-pound coupe-SUV will hit 60 mph in about 5.2 seconds.
An electronically controlled suspension keeps the ride composed, and the 22-inch black wheels wear Michelin all-season rubber. Inside, a 27-inch OLED display handles the gauges and navigation, while Bang & Olufsen audio, a panoramic roof, a head-up display, and heated and ventilated seats front and rear round out the comfort. Pricing starts at $89,400, and our tester landed at $91,545 with freight and the Uyuni White paint.
