2026 Genesis GV80 Coupe: What is Sacrificed for Style?

Genesis has yet to hand us a vehicle we didn’t love. So when the 2026 Genesis GV80 Coupe showed up in Tyler for a week, the real question wasn’t whether we’d enjoy it. Instead, it was whether all that swoopy, style-first design leaves enough room for real family life, or whether this is just a pretty face wearing a nearly $90,000 price tag. Ultimately, we drove it, launched it, hauled with it, and put the whole family in it to find out.
A Coupe-SUV That Still Has to Earn Its Keep

Let’s clear one thing up first: a four-door coupe is an oxymoron, but the SUV coupe segment is booming in the luxury space. Naturally, buyers want the ride height and command of an SUV with the sleek, athletic look of a coupe. For example, the 2026 Genesis GV80 Coupe plays in the same sandbox as the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and BMW X6, with the Porsche Cayenne and Lamborghini Urus lurking as pricier alternatives. To our eyes, this is the best-looking of the mainstream bunch. Still, the question for a family is what that raked roofline costs you, and we’ll get to that.
Under the Hood: The E-Supercharged V6

Motivation comes from a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 with a 48-volt e-Supercharger mild-hybrid system, good for 409 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque, routed through an 8-speed automatic to a rear-drive-biased all-wheel-drive system. Notably, that rear bias is a genuine win for how this thing feels in corners. In fact, brake-torque it in Sport+, and we saw 5.66 seconds to 60. Meanwhile, a rolling launch in Comfort returned 6.18 seconds, and a rolling Sport+ run split the difference at 5.84. Plenty quick. Honestly, at $90,000 we half-expected a touch snappier from something wearing this athletic a suit, but there’s no such thing as slow here.
Style That Actually Delivers

The GV80 Coupe earns its looks. The dark chrome crosshatch grille is a head-turner, especially in the Bearing Blue paint, an ice-blue metallic that won us over despite my usual skepticism of light blues. Notably, the two-line lighting theme starts with the headlights and wraps around the sides; the 22-inch wheels fill the arches, and everything behind the B-pillar is unique to the coupe. Around back, it reads more like the G80 sedan than the standard GV80 SUV, complete with quad-look exhaust tips and a hands-free power tailgate that beeps a friendly warning before it opens. Still, one small gripe: the dark chrome door handles show fingerprints and oils almost instantly, which can make a freshly washed car feel grubby.
Living With It

Inside is where this GV80 Coupe won our hearts, and where families should pay attention. Specifically, our tester wore an ultramarine navy interior with deep orange contrast stitching, carbon fiber trim, a Bang and Olufsen sound system, and a 27-inch OLED screen that stretches across the dash. Overall, the seats are heated and ventilated front and rear; the driver’s seat adds massage and power leg support, and the whole cabin feels genuinely premium.
For parents especially, the details land. Soft-close doors mean no slamming with kids aboard. Notably, the rear outboard seats are heated, ventilated, and power-reclining, with their own climate controls, USB-C ports, built-in manual sunshades, and a fold-down armrest. Tucker was very comfortable back there. At 5-foot-10, I had headroom to spare once the seats were reclined, even under that dropping roofline. In short, passive entry on all four doors and a walk-up hands-free tailgate make the daily grind of buckling kids and loading gear a lot easier.
The Coupe Compromise: Cargo and Space

Here’s the trade-off. Ultimately, choosing the coupe means no third row and less room out back than the standard GV80 SUV. You still get a long, usable load floor, a cargo net with D-rings, and a little extra hidden storage under the floor, though the battery lives down there, so it’s modest. In fact, you’re looking at 29.3 cubic feet behind the second row and 61.1 cubic feet with the seats folded, and those seats power-fold in a handy 40/20/40 split. For a couple with one or two kids, it’s plenty. On the other hand, for a big family that needs a third row, the regular GV80 is the smarter buy.
Behind the Wheel: Ride and Handling

Those big 22-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Primacy Tour tires should ride harshly. However, they don’t, thanks to a fully adaptive suspension with a camera that previews the road and adjusts on the fly. Meanwhile, in Comfort it soaks up broken pavement without floating; in Sport and Sport+ it firms up, tucks in the body roll, and lets you carve a winding road faster than you’d expect from a tall, heavy SUV. It’s still physics, so it leans on you more than a G80 sedan would, but the engine and transmission are always speaking the same language, and the brakes proved sharp when a deer decided to cross my path.
The One Thing That Bugged Me

My biggest gripe is the aggressive auto stop-start. Specifically, in June in East Texas, the system shuts the engine off at nearly every stop to save fuel, and the moment it does, the A/C compressor eases off, and the cabin warms up faster than I’d like. As a result, even I found myself hunting for the stop-start defeat button. It’s a small thing, but in real summer heat with the family aboard, it’s worth knowing about. Finally, one more note: if you want to save some money, the standard 3.5T GV80 Coupe still gets to 60 in under six seconds, and you won’t miss much from skipping the e-Supercharger.
Verdict: Is the 2026 Genesis GV80 Coupe Worth It?

Overall, the 2026 Genesis GV80 Coupe is a stunner inside and out, quick, comfortable, and packed with the kind of thoughtful touches that make family life easier. Still, it asks you to give up a third row and some cargo space for that gorgeous roofline, and it wants nearly $90,000 to do it. If your family fits and the design speaks to you, it’s the best-looking luxury SUV coupe for the money. If you need maximum space, buy the standard GV80 and don’t look back. Either way, Genesis keeps its streak alive.
