The 2027 Jeep Wrangler JL-2A Revives a 1945 Legend for Just $115 More

Jeep is going back to where it all began. The automaker just revealed the 2027 Jeep Wrangler JL-2A, and it reaches all the way to 1945 for its inspiration. Jeep unveiled the special edition over the weekend as the penultimate drop in its yearlong Twelve 4 Twelve series, with only one reveal left to go. The new model honors the original Willys CJ-2A, the vehicle that first brought Jeep capability to civilian driveways. Better still, the JL-2A builds on the range-topping Rubicon, so its off-road hardware comes standard.
From Battlefield to Back Forty

To understand the JL-2A, you have to start with the CJ-2A. In July 1945, Willys-Overland adapted the battle-proven military Willys MB for everyday life, and the result became the first Jeep vehicle built specifically for civilians. Because farmers and ranchers needed a dependable workhorse, the CJ-2A added a tailgate, a rear power takeoff, larger headlights, and the now-iconic seven-slot grille.
Its bold postwar colors gave that humble workhorse real personality. Harvest Tan paired with Sunset Red wheels, for example, while Pasture Green arrived with Autumn Yellow wheels. Those same combinations directly inspired the modern tribute.
The original CJ-2A represents a defining chapter in Jeep brand history. It is the moment the Jeep vehicle found a new purpose in communities across America.

Retro Colors and Modern Trail Gear

On the outside, the Jeep Wrangler JL-2A blends 1945 style with proven Rubicon hardware, since it builds on Jeep’s most capable Wrangler trim. Gobi leads the palette on the two-door, while a shade called ’41 anchors the four-door. Gobi even nods to the original’s Harvest Tan finish. In addition, buyers can choose Bright White, Sting Gray, Ghost, or Joose.
Exclusive 17-inch retro wheels wear a Joose finish, a clear salute to those original Sunset Red wheels. They also ride on the standard 33-inch BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires that come on the Rubicon. Body-color fender flares and a three-piece hardtop keep the look clean. Finally, orange front and rear tow hooks add bold pops of color, while Dark Metallic Grey accents give the seven-slot grille a modern edge.
Inside the Jeep Wrangler JL-2A Cabin

Inside, the Jeep Wrangler JL-2A introduces a first-ever Wrangler color and material combination. Nappa Heritage Tan leather wraps the seats, and it carries over to the instrument-panel mid-bolster for a premium feel. Meanwhile, rich Bison Brown covers the door panels, the lower instrument panel, and the center console.
Bold Desert Orange stitching runs throughout the cabin, so the interior ties neatly back to those Joose wheels. Jeep also added exclusive heritage touches, including a Willys-Overland satin chrome shifter medallion and a rear swing-gate plaque that recreates the original CJ-2A dashboard data plate. On top of that, standard equipment covers remote start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener, and a front TrailCam with integrated washer.
What the 2027 Jeep Wrangler JL-2A Costs

The package opens for orders in October, and it carries a price of $4,995. That figure delivers all of the exclusive content for only $115 more than a similarly equipped Rubicon. In short, the JL-2A starts from the trail-ready Rubicon and simply layers its heritage package on top.
As a result, the JL-2A reads less like a pricey collector’s piece and more like a well-timed value for Wrangler shoppers. For a limited run with this much heritage baked in, that price is easy to like.
Where the Jeep Wrangler JL-2A Fits in Twelve 4 Twelve

The Jeep Wrangler JL-2A is the 11th of twelve limited-edition Wranglers that Jeep is rolling out across a single year. That makes it the penultimate drop, so only one reveal remains before the series wraps. Each release leans on a different chapter of brand history, and this one reaches the furthest back of all, to the original civilian Jeep.
It also follows recent specials such as the Jeep Wrangler Smoky Mountain Edition and the 2027 Jeep Wrangler Laredo, both of which we covered here at GT: Garage Talk®. For anyone who loves Jeep history, the JL-2A celebrates 85 years of 4×4 leadership in style, and it sets the stage for the finale still to come.
Our Take

We love a special edition that respects its roots without pricing itself out of reach. The JL-2A does exactly that. It borrows the heritage colors, the retro wheels, and the warm cabin, yet it asks only $115 more than a comparable Rubicon.
Plenty of tribute models chase nostalgia with a steep markup, so this one feels refreshingly honest. If you have wanted a Wrangler with real character and a direct line to Jeep history, order books open next month.
