Toyota’s midsize sedan is back for another year, and it’s sticking with what works. The 2027 Toyota Camry carries over its grades, features, and options from 2026, keeping its hybrid-only powertrain and all five trims. Prices start at $29,700 before destination, and the new model arrives at Toyota dealerships this fall.

That carryover approach isn’t a bad thing. The Camry still offers up to 51 MPG combined and available all-wheel drive on every grade, two things families watching their fuel budgets care about. Hybrids also keep gaining ground with shoppers, as we saw in our third-quarter hybrid sales breakdown.

Hybrid Power Across the Board

Every 2027 Camry uses Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system, pairing a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with electric motors and a lithium-ion battery. Front-wheel-drive (FWD) models make 225 net horsepower, while all-wheel-drive (AWD) versions make 232 horsepower.

Toyota estimates the LE FWD will return 51 MPG combined. An electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT) sends power to the wheels, and Toyota tuned the system so acceleration feels more natural and better matched to engine speed. Normal, Eco, and Sport drive modes come standard, and regenerative braking is built into the electronically controlled brakes for a consistent pedal feel.

Available All-Wheel Drive on Every Grade

Electronic On-Demand AWD is available on all five grades. Instead of a driveshaft, it uses an electric motor generator on the rear axle. The system shifts torque between the front and rear based on conditions, and it can send more power to the rear wheels when it detects slippery roads or a loss of traction.

Every Camry rides on a MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension. The SE, Nightshade, and XSE add a sport-tuned setup with specially tuned shocks and springs for a more engaging drive.

Five Grades, Five Personalities

Toyota offers the 2027 Camry in LE, SE, Nightshade, XLE, and XSE grades. Each one wears the hammerhead front end designed at Toyota’s CALTY studios in Newport Beach, California, and Ann Arbor, Michigan, along with standard LED headlights and daytime running lights.

The LE and XLE lean toward comfort. The LE gets a black horizontal-bar grille and 16-inch alloy wheels, while the XLE adds a dark metallic gray grille, 18-inch black and machine-finished wheels, and chrome accents.

The SE and XSE play up the sporty side with mesh grilles, side rockers, functional front air ducts, canards, a rear spoiler, a diffuser, and exposed dual exhaust tips. The SE rides on 18-inch black wheels, and the XSE gets 19-inch black and smoke gray wheels. Select XSE colors can also be paired with a Midnight Black Metallic roof for a two-tone look.

The Nightshade goes darker still. It adds Midnight Black Metallic accents to the grille, air curtains, canards, door handles, mirror caps, antenna, diffuser, and spoiler, plus unique 19-inch wheels and gloss-black badging. It comes in Ice Cap, Supersonic Red, or Midnight Black Metallic.

Across the lineup, exterior colors include Ocean Gem, Heavy Metal, Ice Cap, Wind Chill Pearl, Celestial Silver Metallic, Underground, Midnight Black Metallic, Supersonic Red, Reservoir Blue, and Dark Cosmos, with availability varying by grade.

A Cabin Tailored to Each Grade

Inside, the LE uses woven fabric with an embossed pattern inspired by ocean waves. The SE and Nightshade get SofTex synthetic leather seats with white accents, while the XSE comes standard with leather featuring “shooting blade” perforations. The XLE mixes leather with Dinamica microfiber, including quilted trim on the door panels and dashboard.

The sportier SE, Nightshade, and XSE add aluminum pedals, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, and a leather-wrapped shift knob. On the XLE and XSE, heated front seats and 8-way power front seats are standard, ventilated seats are available, and acoustic front side glass helps quiet the cabin. Those two grades also offer driver memory settings and a panoramic roof with a power sunshade.

Families will appreciate that every Camry comes standard with dual-zone automatic climate control and rear air vents, so the back seat doesn’t get left out on hot Texas afternoons.

Tech and Safety Features

An 8-inch touchscreen is standard, and a 12.3-inch screen is available on select grades. The LE, SE, and Nightshade get a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, while the XLE and XSE step up to a 12.3-inch cluster and offer a 10-inch head-up display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger, and five USB ports are standard. A nine-speaker JBL audio system and Digital Key are available on the XLE and XSE.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 comes standard, including a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, full-speed adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist, automatic high beams, and Proactive Driving Assist. Blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and Safe Exit Alert are standard too.

XLE and XSE buyers can add the Premium Plus Package, which brings Traffic Jam Assist, front cross-traffic alert, Lane Change Assist, a panoramic camera system, and front and rear parking assist with automatic braking.

Final Thoughts on the 2027 Toyota Camry

With no changes from 2026, the 2027 Toyota Camry is all about consistency. If you find a good deal on a 2026 model, there’s little reason to wait. However, if you’re shopping new this fall, the Camry still brings a lot for the money: up to 51 MPG combined, available AWD on every grade, and a long list of standard safety tech.

It also faces stiff competition from sedans like the 2027 Kia K5 and upscale hybrids like the 2026 Lexus ES 350h. Want more news like this? Sign up for the GT: Garage Talk newsletter at GTGarageTalk.com to get the latest automotive news in your inbox every Thursday morning.
