Q3 Hybrid Sales: Toyota Dominates, but Honda, Hyundai, and Kia Set Records

Hybrids just had their biggest summer yet. Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, and Kia all reported record Q3 hybrid sales, while the Ford Maverick Hybrid and the new Jeep Cherokee hybrid posted huge gains of their own.
At the same time, EV sales slipped at several automakers. As a result, more buyers are landing in the middle: a vehicle that saves fuel without ever needing a plug. Here is how Q3 hybrid sales stacked up across the brands that report them.
Toyota Still Owns the Hybrid Market

No automaker sells more hybrids than Toyota. Toyota Motor North America sold 363,367 electrified vehicles in the third quarter, up 28.5%. That is 57.4% of its 633,223 total sales, so more than half of every Toyota and Lexus sold had some form of electrification. Toyota counts hybrids, plug-in hybrids, EVs, and fuel cell vehicles in that total, but hybrids make up the bulk of it.
The Toyota brand accounted for 325,227 of those sales, up 29.2%, while Lexus added 38,140, up 23.1%. Through September, Toyota’s electrified sales total 1,038,114, up 16.3%, according to Toyota’s third-quarter sales report.
The RAV4 Hybrid is the big mover. Its sales are up 43.6% this year to 200,209, and the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid nearly doubled, up 92.1% to 32,228. Meanwhile, the Camry, which is now sold only as a hybrid, is up 11.2% to 260,671. The Grand Highlander Hybrid climbed 34.3% to 65,201, and the hybrid-only Sienna rose 11.7% to 84,765.
Not every Toyota hybrid is growing, though. As we noted in our look at full-size truck sales, the Tundra with the i-Force Max hybrid powertrain is down 6.8% to 20,574. On the Lexus side, the RX Hybrid is up 26.7% to 37,448, but the ES Hybrid is down 62.5% to 5,133.
Honda Sets a Third-Quarter Hybrid Record

Honda had its best third quarter for hybrids ever. Honda brand hybrid sales topped 106,000 in the quarter, which means nearly 30% of the 358,388 Honda vehicles sold were hybrids.
The CR-V Hybrid led the way with a record 59,668 sales, or 53% of all CR-V sales. Likewise, hybrids made up 44% of Accord sales in the third quarter, and the Civic Hybrid accounted for 35% of Civic sales in September. Overall, American Honda sold 392,341 vehicles in the quarter, up 9.3%, for its best third quarter since 2019.
Hyundai Hybrids Climb 35%

Hyundai also set a record for Q3 hybrid sales, which rose 35%, according to Hyundai’s sales results, while total sales rose 3% to 246,896.
The Sonata Hybrid more than doubled its sales in the quarter, and the Santa Fe Hybrid had its best quarter ever. Hybrids also accounted for 28% of Hyundai’s September sales, up 39% from a year ago. However, Hyundai does not publish exact hybrid unit totals, so we cannot rank it directly against Toyota or Honda.
Kia Hybrid Sales More Than Double in September

Kia set its own records, too. The brand says its hybrid and electrified sales posted their best quarter ever, and total third-quarter sales rose 8% to 236,659. September was especially strong, with Kia hybrid sales up 152% and total electrified sales up 60%.
The Sorento Hybrid led the gains in September, up 112%. Meanwhile, the Sportage Hybrid rose 53%, and the Carnival Hybrid gained 47%. On top of that, the all-new Telluride Hybrid gives Kia a three-row hybrid SUV to compete with the Grand Highlander Hybrid. Like Hyundai, Kia does not break out hybrid unit totals.
Ford’s Maverick Hybrid Sets a Record

Ford’s hybrid story is all about trucks. The Maverick Hybrid set a third-quarter record with 27,793 sales, up 59.6%, and it is also at a record 74,300 through September. Ford calls it America’s best-selling hybrid pickup, and the numbers back that up.
The F-150 Hybrid added 34,527 sales through September, according to Ford’s third-quarter results. For context, that puts the Maverick Hybrid and F-150 Hybrid at a combined 108,827 hybrid pickups this year, compared with 20,574 for the Tundra Hybrid. Ford does not report a total hybrid figure for its full lineup, though.
Cherokee Hybrid Gives Jeep a Boost, and More Are Coming

Stellantis does not have nearly as many hybrids as the Japanese and Korean brands, but the new Jeep Cherokee hybrid is off to a fast start. It added 10,344 sales in the third quarter, compared with 131 a year ago, and it has 20,914 sales through September. That helped offset a 20% drop for the Jeep brand, as we covered in our Stellantis third-quarter sales breakdown.
Elsewhere, the Mazda CX-50 Hybrid had its best September ever, and Nissan is finally joining the hybrid race. The 2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid with e-POWER arrives in November, giving Nissan a hybrid version of its best-selling SUV.
