Up front, double-stacked LED headlights, a masked upper grille, and a sculpted hood create a bold face. Meanwhile, an illuminated VW badge and double lightlines, standard on all but the base trim, deliver a distinctive night-time signature. Around back, a flush tailgate, a cross-body taillight design, and standard dynamic turn signals with coming- and leaving-home animations round out the upscale look. Three new colors join the palette, too: Dark Sage Metallic, Blackberry Metallic, and Sandstone.
Inside: A Reimagined, More Premium Cabin
Open the door and the changes continue. A bold architectural loop wraps the cockpit, soft-touch materials cover the surfaces, and standard gray wood trim adds a modern, upscale feel. Buyers can choose from three interior palettes, an airy pebble grey, a moody black, and a medium brown, with available olive-green contrast stitching that plays up the sporty theme.
Comfort gets a real upgrade as well. Every model comes with a revised 12-way ergonomic driver’s seat and four-way lumbar support, while upper trims add thigh support and a full-back massage function for the driver and front passenger. Ambient lighting spans 10 colors on most trims and jumps to 30 on the top two, and a new Atmospheres feature ties the lighting and audio together. Leatherette is standard, and the range-topping trims step up to Varenna and Nappa leather.
The Most Powerful Atlas Cross Sport Engine Yet
Under the hood sits the headline for enthusiasts. The 2027 VW Atlas Cross Sport uses the latest evo5 version of Volkswagen’s turbocharged 2.0-liter TSI® four-cylinder, an essentially all-new engine with a variable-geometry turbocharger. It produces 282 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, a 13-horsepower bump over the previous engine, and Volkswagen expects better fuel economy despite the added muscle. That makes it the most powerful Atlas Cross Sport engine ever.
Power routes through an eight-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic® manual shifting. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard, and Volkswagen’s 4Motion® all-wheel-drive system is available across the lineup. Properly equipped with the factory-installed hitch, the Cross Sport can still tow up to 5,000 pounds. Volkswagen also confirmed that a hybrid variant is planned to arrive with the midcycle refresh.
Smarter Tech and More Driver Confidence
Technology takes a big step forward. The base trim gets a 12.9-inch free-standing infotainment screen, and about 90% of Cross Sport models upgrade to a 15-inch display, paired with a standard 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro gauge cluster. A new Driver Experience Dial handles volume, drive modes, and the Atmospheres feature, and the console fits two phones side by side on updated Qi2 wireless charging. Beginning with model year 2027, Volkswagen bundles its connected services into a single myVW+ In-Vehicle Premium subscription, adding perks such as Premium Navigation, generative-AI Premium Speech, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and even AirConsole® in-car gaming while parked.
Safety grows as well. A new front center airbag brings the total to seven, and the standard IQ.DRIVE® suite gains several smart refinements. Travel Assist now supports driver-initiated lane changes at up to 95 MPH, and Emergency Assist Plus can steer the vehicle safely to the roadside if it detects a medical emergency. On top of that, higher trims add Park Assist Plus and predictive adaptive cruise control that reads the road ahead.
