Hyundai October Sales Set a Record as the Santa Fe Jumps 52%

Once again, families kept Hyundai showrooms busy this fall. Hyundai October sales reached 73,452 vehicles, the brand’s best October ever and a 5% jump over last year. Even better for Hyundai, retail sales (the ones made to everyday shoppers rather than fleets) climbed 9% to an October record of 62,646.
Above all, the three-row Santa Fe led the way with a massive 52% gain. Meanwhile, hybrids kept rolling, and the brand’s electrified lineup now accounts for nearly a third of everything Hyundai sells.
Hyundai October 2026 Sales by the Numbers

To start, here are the headline figures from Hyundai’s record month:
- Total October sales: 73,452, up 5%
- Retail sales: 62,646, an October record and up 9%
- Hybrid sales: an October record, up 20% and 29% of total volume
- Year-to-date sales: 770,916, up 3%
- Year-to-date hybrid sales: up 50%
Plus, those numbers follow a strong close to the third quarter, when Hyundai also set a September record. In other words, the momentum is real, and it is coming from retail buyers.
Santa Fe and Palisade Set the Pace for Families

Without a doubt, the biggest story of the month is the Santa Fe. In fact, Hyundai sold 17,959 of them in October, up 52% and an October record. For a while, it looked like the Santa Fe’s boxy redesign was pushing shoppers toward the bigger Palisade, something we noticed when Palisade sales passed the Santa Fe earlier this year. Now, however, both are winning.
The Hyundai Palisade likewise set an October record with 10,840 sales, up 14%. Notably, the Palisade Hybrid powertrain earned a spot on the WardsAuto 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems list. Specifically, its 2.5-liter turbo hybrid makes 329 horsepower, keeps mechanical all-wheel drive (AWD), and carries an estimated 619 miles of driving range. For a family of road trippers, that range is the kind of number that matters.
Hybrids Now Make Up Nearly a Third of Hyundai Sales

Meanwhile, hybrid growth is the trend that keeps showing up in every sales report. This time, Hyundai’s hybrid sales rose 20% in October, setting a record for the month and making up 29% of total volume. So far this year, Hyundai hybrid sales are up 50%.
Of course, Hyundai isn’t alone. Its sister brand saw Kia October sales hit a record as hybrid sales jumped 114%, and hybrids drove record third-quarter hybrid sales across the industry. If you’re shopping for a family hybrid on a budget, our Elantra Hybrid family review is a great place to start.
Kona, IONIQ 5, and Elantra Bounce Back

Beyond the family SUVs, several smaller Hyundai models had a strong month. For example, the Kona rose 21% to 6,029 sales, and the Elantra climbed 17% to 12,011. Better yet, the Elantra is up 11% for the year, which makes sense with so many families watching their budgets.
Similarly, the IONIQ 5 electric SUV grew 21% in October, reaching 1,981 sales. However, it remains down 23% for the year. On a brighter note, we recently got some seat time in the rugged version, and you can read about taking the IONIQ 5 XRT rally racing in Georgia sand.
Where Hyundai Slipped in October

Still, not every model had a record month. The Tucson, still Hyundai’s best seller this year at 199,495 sales, fell 23% in October to 17,808. Notably, that dip comes as the all-new 2027 Tucson gets closer. In addition, Hyundai is investing about $450 million in its Montgomery, Alabama, plant to prepare for the new Tucson and next-generation propulsion, bringing its total investment there to nearly $2.2 billion since 2005.
Elsewhere, Sonata sales fell 29%, Santa Cruz sales dropped 16%, and the three-row IONIQ 9 slipped 47%. Additionally, the IONIQ 6 recorded zero sales for the month as it transitions to an enthusiast-only N model for the US market.
Hyundai October Sales Winners and Losers

Finally, here’s how every Hyundai model performed in October, ranked by sales, along with what each result means for shoppers:
| Model | October 2026 Sales | October 2025 Sales | Change | What It Means |

| Palisade | 10,840 | 9,549 | Up 14% | Record October for Hyundai’s biggest hauler |
| Kona | 6,029 | 4,969 | Up 21% | Small SUV rebounds after a slow year |

| IONIQ 5 | 1,981 | 1,642 | Up 21% | Up for the month, but still down for the year |
| Santa Cruz | 1,439 | 1,719 | Down 16% | Down for the month and also for the year |
| IONIQ 9 | 169 | 317 | Down 47% | Slower month, although still up 49% for the year |
| IONIQ 6 | 0 | 398 | Down 100% | Moving to an enthusiast-only N model in the U.S. |
Our Take

As a Texas family that tests a lot of three-row SUVs, the Santa Fe and Palisade numbers don’t surprise me. After all, Hyundai offers real family space, strong hybrid options, and pricing that still feels within reach. Clearly, shoppers have noticed.
We also love seeing Hyundai invest in Texas families beyond the showroom. In particular, this month it donated $25,000 to Texas Children’s Center for Childhood Injury Prevention and co-hosted a free car seat check in the Houston area, where certified technicians checked seats for expiration dates, recalls, and proper fit. As parents, that’s the kind of work we can get behind.
