Lexus Reportedly Going AMG Hunting With New Three-Row SUV
When the Lexus TZ made its debut in May, the three-row EV promised to push the brand deeper into the electric SUV space it first entered with the RZ. It also promised buyers more technology, more functionality, and a higher level of luxury than rivals like the Kia EV9.
The one thing seemingly missing from the TZ’s recipe is performance. So far, the luxury brand has chosen not to reveal any details about a hotter model. Now, a new report tied to recent trademark filings suggests Lexus could be working on a variant built to take the fight to Mercedes-AMG and BMW M.
Trademark Filings Reveal a New Flagship Trim
With most Lexus models, a higher number in the alphanumeric name signals more power. The NX450h+ and the TX700h are two recent examples. According to trademark filings found by CarBuzz, the TZ is in line for a power bump with a new TZ600e. As the potential flagship of the family, the TZ600e would only make sense with more power on tap.
One detail stands out. Toyota did not file the trademark in the U.S. Instead, it filed in Great Britain, New Zealand, Norway, and Australia. That could mean this version of the TZ skips the U.S. and stays limited to overseas markets.
Lexus Is Already Building Out the Trim Ladder
Lexus has not confirmed the rumored 600e variant. Even so, the trademark filing follows a precedent the brand has already set. The U.S. will get the TZ450e, which makes 308 hp and 323 lb-ft of torque. Europe, meanwhile, will get the TZ550e. Like the rumored 600e, it steps up the output, landing at 402 hp.
That 402 hp figure puts the 550e above the Highlander EV and its 338 hp. It does little to clear up the naming confusion, though, because Lexus already uses the 600 badge on the LX600. That SUV makes 409 hp from a 3.4-liter V6, and the 700h pushes output to 457 hp. It will be interesting to see where the 600e lands. With the 550e already at 402 hp, look for the range-topping TZ to clear 450 hp. That would help it stand apart from the rest of the family.
What’s Next For Lexus
For now, the company is focusing on expanding its presence in electrification. In addition to the rollout of the TZ, the company is also debuting the revamped ES sedan lineup. The ES 350h continues to be its ICE-powered entry, but it will also be joined by two all-new EV models: the 350e and the 500e. These two ES variants in particular will be a key test for Lexus as the brand waits to see if they can help add more sales to its bread-and-butter model.
Along with adding more juice to its EV lineup, the company is also refreshing the Lexus IS and the RZ for 2026. With all of these projects on its plate, we will not be surprised if Lexus chooses to take its time when it comes to rolling out new models like the TZ600e.
When Could We See the TZ600e?
The TZ is not in dealerships yet, so we expect Lexus to focus on the launch itself first. The TZ450e will lead the way in the U.S. and reach dealerships in the coming months. That order makes sense. The 450e is meant to ease the TZ into the lineup. It should also help shoppers move out of an ICE model like the TX and into the electric TZ.
If the 450e builds a strong base of buyers, it could give Lexus the incentive to green-light the 600e. Another key test will be whether Lexus brings the TZ550e stateside later on. That move would widen the TZ’s reach and win over shoppers who want more power and opulence in a three-row EV.
