2027 Mustang Mach-E Trail Brings Gravel-Road Grip for $2,295

Ford wants your electric crossover to handle the last few miles of dirt before the campsite. The new 2027 Mustang Mach-E Trail is a $2,295 package for the Mustang Mach-E Select that adds a slight lift, the wheels and tires from the Mustang Mach-E Rally, and standard 400W Pro Power Onboard for running gear once you get there.
Order banks for the 2027 Mustang Mach-E opened Oct. 22 through Ford dealers, and Ford expects the Trail to begin arriving in the first quarter of 2027. Meanwhile, the rest of the lineup picks up a bigger standard battery and a starting price under $40k.
What the Mustang Mach-E Trail Package Adds

The Trail is not a separate trim. Instead, it is a factory-built package for the Mustang Mach-E Select with all-wheel drive (AWD), which Ford calls eAWD. It is not a limited run or a dealer-installed kit, either, so Ford engineered the hardware to work together from the start.
Specially tuned front and rear passive struts and springs raise the ride height by 10 mm (about 0.4 inches) up front and 15 mm (about 0.6 inches) in the rear compared with the Select and Premium. In addition, Ford borrows the steering rack, 19-inch High Gloss Dark Carbonized Gray wheels, and Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires straight from the Mustang Mach-E Rally.
On the styling side, the Trail gets a Carbon Black lower front fascia and a Mach-E Trail logo on the center armrest. That factory approach is a different play than the Ford Bronco ORV Package we covered this week, which is a dealer-installed accessory bundle.
Built for Gravel Roads and Winter Weather

Ford is clear that the Trail is not a rock crawler. Instead, it targets the gravel road to the trailhead, the dirt road to the campsite, and the last stretch before the water.
According to Nick Rallis, lead Mustang Mach-E vehicle integration engineer at Ford, the lift and tires make the Trail capable on loose gravel, sand, and two-track dirt roads, with “a significant traction benefit in winter conditions as well.” In other words, the grip upgrade is not just for weekend adventures. It should also help on a rain-soaked school pickup run in East Texas.
400W Pro Power Onboard Comes Standard

Then, once you arrive, the Trail can help run the campsite. It comes standard with 400W Pro Power Onboard, which includes outlets in the cargo area and at the rear of the center console.
For example, that is enough to charge phones and tablets or run smaller accessories, such as an electric pump for a paddleboard, camp lights, a fan, or a bike tire pump. Ford also offers Pro Power Onboard on the Premium and GT models, including the Rally, but the Trail is the only one that gets it as standard equipment.
Room for Bikes, Kayaks, and Muddy Gear

For bigger gear, a Clamp On Cross Bar Kit by Thule fits every Mustang Mach-E Trail configuration, and Ford sells it through its accessories site. In turn, it gives you a spot up top for bikes, kayaks, cargo boxes, and more.
An optional Interior Protection Package adds all-weather floor mats and a cargo-area protector, which should come in handy after a muddy day outside. You can order it with the Trail or buy it separately.
Additionally, Trail buyers get 100,000 Ford Rewards points on top of the 22,000 points every Mustang Mach-E buyer receives. Owners can put those points toward eligible accessories, parts, merchandise, subscriptions, and experiences.
Bigger Battery and a Lower Starting Price for 2027

Beyond the Trail, Ford rolled out a broader update for the 2027 Mustang Mach-E. For the first time, an extended-range battery is standard across the entire lineup. The Select and Premium offer 88 kWh of usable capacity, while the GT and Rally offer 91 kWh.
A new secondary drive unit (the front motor) delivers the same performance as the previous unit at a lower cost. As a result, the 2027 Mustang Mach-E Select with rear-wheel drive (RWD) starts at $39,995 before destination and delivery, putting an extended-range Mach-E under $40k.
However, Ford has not announced final EPA-estimated range figures yet. Instead, the company says range will vary by trim and configuration and that it will share numbers closer to availability.
BlueCruise, Colors, and Ordering Details

BlueCruise 1.5 hands-free driving is optional on the Select through the Tech Pack Lite and on the Premium through the Premium Tech Pack, and both include one year plus 90 days of service. By contrast, it is standard on the GT and Rally. Because the Trail is built on the Select, you need to choose the BlueCruise hardware when you order, since you cannot add it later.
As for paint, Desert Sand and Shadow Black are the standard colors. Extra-cost options include Adriatic Blue Metallic, Eruption Green Metallic, Glacier Gray Metallic, Race Red, Star White Metallic Tri-coat, and Velocity Blue Metallic. The Ford Connectivity Package and Ford Security Package are also standard, and each includes one year of service.
You can order a 2027 Mustang Mach-E now through your local Ford dealer, and the online Build and Price tool is scheduled to open early next year. Until then, you can learn more on Ford’s Mustang Mach-E page.
Our Take on the 2027 Mustang Mach-E Trail

Overall, I like what Ford did here. The Trail does not pretend to be a Bronco. Instead, it takes the most useful parts of the Mach-E Rally, the wheels and tires, and pairs them with a modest lift and a household outlet for a reasonable $2,295. For families who camp, fish, or simply live at the end of a gravel county road, that is a practical package.
That said, I want to see the final EPA range numbers before getting too excited, since taller suspension and grippier tires can cost a few miles. Outdoorsy EVs are a growing segment, as we saw when we tested the 2026 Toyota bZ Woodland AWD, and charging access still matters more than any badge when you head off the grid. Still, a bigger standard battery and a starting price under $40k make the entire 2027 Mach-E lineup more compelling.
