Acura is about to get a lot bigger. The brand just laid out its future plans for U.S. dealers, and they include three new Acura SUVs, two of them in segments where the brand doesn’t compete today. First up is an adventure-ready SUV that arrives in the first part of 2028.

It’s a big bet on shoppers Acura has been missing, from outdoorsy buyers to families who need more seats than the MDX offers. Here’s what we know so far.

An Adventure-Ready Acura Arrives First

The first of the new SUVs is built for people who head off the pavement on weekends. Acura says it will deliver the capability customers need for outdoor adventures, wrapped in premium styling with the comfort and technology buyers expect from the brand.

So far, Acura has shown just one teaser: a dusty, chunky wheel and tire. That points to a more rugged personality than anything in Acura’s current lineup. However, the brand hasn’t shared a name, size, or powertrain yet.

My guess is that it would be based on the Honda Passport SUV, as Honda has already given it a significant upgrade for its second year of production with a massive lift and more interior luxuries. To churn out a new, as-yet-unseen Acura SUV on such short notice, it would have to be a platform-sharing experiment, and the Passport has already proven to be a worthy starting point.

A Hybrid RDX and Acura’s Biggest SUV Ever

Also arriving in 2028 is the all-new, fourth-generation RDX. It will be the first Acura to use the company’s award-winning two-motor hybrid system.

Acura is also developing a new 8-passenger SUV, its largest ever. It will slot above the 7-passenger MDX and target the growing demand for family-friendly vehicles in the premium space. We covered early reports on Acura’s upcoming big SUV this summer, and now it’s officially in the works.

For families like ours, that’s the headline. Eight seats in a premium package fills a gap Acura has never covered before.

A New V6 Hybrid Is Coming

Acura is also working on a new V6 hybrid powertrain for its D-segment models. The brand says it will bring sporty performance, improved towing capability, and better efficiency, though it hasn’t named which models will get it first.

Better towing from a hybrid would be welcome news for anyone pulling a small boat or camper to the lake, much like the Honda Base Station camper I reported on earlier this year at Pickup Truck Talk. It also keeps a V6 in the mix at a time when many luxury brands are shrinking their engines.

Acura Is Outpacing the Luxury Market

Acura’s sales are up 4.4% through the first three quarters of 2026, outpacing several established luxury competitors. The MDX, which Acura calls the best-selling three-row luxury SUV of all time, is up more than 25%. Honda’s broader numbers tell a similar story in our third-quarter Honda sales breakdown.

The ADX and Integra both lead their segments in retail sales. Meanwhile, the ADX, Integra, and MDX all get meaningful updates for the 2027 model year.

Gateway Models Still Matter

Acura isn’t abandoning its more affordable models to chase bigger SUVs. “Acura is entering the most popular segments in the market while maintaining a leading position in gateway segments with Integra and ADX,” said Gary Robinson, vice president of auto strategy at American Honda.

With affordability top of mind for so many buyers, that balance makes sense. You can read our full 2026 Acura Integra A-Spec review, and there has even been talk of a hybrid version of the ADX.

Final Thoughts on Acura’s New SUVs

Today, Acura sells four models: the Integra sport sedan and the ADX, RDX, and MDX SUVs. By the end of the decade, that list could include an adventure-ready SUV, a hybrid RDX, and an 8-passenger flagship. Around 85% of the Acura vehicles sold in America in 2025 were also built here.

We’ll be watching these new Acura SUVs closely, especially that 8-passenger model. You can explore the current lineup on Acura’s website, and sign up for the GT: Garage Talk newsletter to get the latest automotive news in your inbox every Thursday morning.
